England supporters of other clubs have always had an issue with the Chelsea players that have represented England.
This really makes no sense given the important role that Chelsea players have had for England in the last decade, often being the star performers in the games that matter.
With Greg Dyke looking to the future, the issue of getting behind the team is one that needs to be addressed.
England fans seemed particularly annoyed when John Terry was captain, revelling in his fall from the captaincy not once but twice. Regardless of your view on the Terry case, there were many that enjoyed it a little too much.
Then there is the malaise to Frank Lampard despite his illustrious record for his country that has seem him repeatedly step up when others have cried off with imaginary injuries.
I am not expecting ticker tape parades every time he plays but a little more than the current indifference is deserved.
Then there is the downright hatred of Ashley Cole, one of only a handful of players with more than 100 caps, who has been a consistent performer for his country.
I understand that John Terry and Ashley Cole may not have done themselves any good in the past but to boo players when wearing the three lions for club or personal life matters is a little pathetic.
Surely, it is time when England play to forget who the player represents at club level or their indiscretions in their private lives and back the national team?
The failure to do so may go some way to explaining why England’s “golden generation” failed so miserably.
I wouldn’t expect anything to change though.
