EPL: Beginning of Another Era

Football has always been a sport of high intensity, raging emotions, inconceivable support and passion always at its very best. With clubs in different countries having their share of spice rubbed in their eyes, the English Premier League has always been the crowd favorite. EPL has seen successful and at the same time eccentric managers like the “Gaffer” and “the special one”. It has also seen characters like the Kung-fu kick Cantona and the Super Mario.

In all the 21 season of the Barclays Premier League, there has been long-lasting rivalry among managers. Rivalry which starts in the field and extends beyond the press conferences. As we have seen two decades largely dominated by Fergie’s fledglings, BPL 2013/14 will be close as it gets.

Post Fergie’s retirement, it’s the first time in BPL that the managers of top 3 clubs have changed. Ex-Everton manager David Moyes donning the manager’s role at Old Trafford, return of the present “happy one” and Manuel Pellegrini taking over City, BPL is now going to witness a new era. United would be hoping to continue its dominance, whereas clubs like Chelsea would be bolstered by return of its adored Mourinho. City have had a decent run in the last 3 years, with a FA Cup and Premier League Trophy in its kitty. Arsenal have come out of its debt trap, because of which they had to sell players like Van Persie and Fabregas. In the upcoming season, as all the top 4 teams would really push for the league title, here is an analysis of these clubs.

Manchester united

As the whole mourned the retirement of Ferguson, United appointed Moyes as a coach. Often praised for his success in managing Everton with a small budget, players like Baines, Fellaini, Neville have made their mark in the EPL. Delighted to see some extra bugs in United’s trunk, Moyes would spend that wisely to strengthen United’s midfield and convince Wayne Rooney to stay at united.. Never had any other club enjoyed so much success and Moyes’ main challenge would be to maintain that, in addition to strengthen the youth system of this club. Without doubt the hype, anticipation and pressure around Old Trafford never falls.

Manchester City

With another bizarre sacking of managers this season, Mancini’s one was the least logical. With 3 trophies in four years, City have had a decent run off late and the incoming manager Manuel Pellegrini would look to improve that. City have also found some young players like Nastastic, Garcia who were impressive last season. Slightly handicapped from Tevez going to Juventus, City’s new signings Jesus Navas and Fernandinho would particularly like to convert more opportunities into goals with the likes of Silva,Toure and Aguero.

Chelsea

This club is any manager’s nightmare, with the expectation to deliver trophies from day 1. However, there is one manager worshipped in this part of London. He called himself “the special one” in 2005 and now calls himself “the happy one”. The much idolised Mourinho’s return is every Chelsea supporter’s dream. Mourinho won 2 league trophies in his previous 3 years at the club, and he has now got the team to do it again. A strong defense with Luiz, Ivanovic, and Cole, midfield maestro Lampard and the attacking options with Mata, Oscar,Schurrle and Hazard, Mourinho could not have asked for a better team. Whatever he does, Chelsea would be delighted to have their Special one.

Arsenal

With another season of puffing and sweating, Arsenal have again managed to scrape through to the top 4. Now being the most experienced manager in EPL, Arsene Wenger would breathe easily after Fergie’s retirement. Often criticized for his over-reliability on youngsters and selling clubs stars, Wenger has failed to win a trophy for the last 8 years. Arsenal have signed another young french player in Yaya Sanogo and Madrid Striker Higuain have also been closely linked with them. The London club are also after Rooney to add depth to their squad, after the likes of Cazorla, Wilshere and Walcott have been impressive last season. Its about time that Wenger won a trophy and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
