Marcus Rashford reminds Thierry Henry of Holland and Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert. Rashford has quickly risen through the Manchester United ranks in the past one year and has more or less established himself in the United starting XI.
The youngster’s performances have earned him a lot of good reviews from the footballing world and he has in a short space of time made the transition from a virtually unknown player to a regular household name, in England at least.
The 19-year-old starlet just missed out on the European Golden Boy of 2016 award this year and also earned a shock call-up the England squad for Euro 2016 despite his tender age. Many have tipped Rashford to achieve big things and massive success in the future.
One such admirer is Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry. The ex-Gunners striker has suggested that the young Rashford reminds him very much of former Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert. According to Henry, Rashford’s gameplay, style and also his goal scoring ability is very similar to Patrick Kluivert’s when he was just coming up in Europe.
While speaking to Sky Sports, Henry said, “He reminds me of a young Kluivert on the pitch. He’s certainly a talent.”
This is surely a daunting comparison for the youngster as Kluivert has scored over 200 career goals and was Holland’s all-time leading goal scorer for 10 years until he was overtaken by ex-Arsenal and Manchester United forward Robin van Persie.
Kluivert also scored 90 times in 182 league appearances for Barcelona during his time with the Catalan giants and had an illustrious career all across Europe with clubs like Ajax, AC Milan, Newcastle Unite, Valencia and PSV Eindhoven before retiring from the game after his spell at Lille.
Henry certainly believes Rashford can make the same impact as Kluivert if he continues his development at Manchester United.
Rashford has featured more often than not in Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United lineup and although he was played out of position, i.e out wide, in most games, Henry was happy to see the 19-year-old lead the line for United against Arsenal.
United boss Mourinho has shown faith in the youngster in a number of games and he has played well enough in all of those games. Rashford hasn’t scored as much for the Red Devils this season compared to his breakout season last year but has still managed to bang in 3 Premier League goals in 7 starts for the Manchester Club and the future surely looks promising for the teenager.
Whether Rashford does go on to emulate the feats of Patrick Kluivert remains to be seen but the young lad will surely be buzzing after Henry’s compliment.
