West Bromwich Albion v Arsenal - Premier League

Petr Cech: 6/10

The Czech legend’s performance will best be remembered for his post-match interview in which he blasted the under-fire official Mike Dean. In the actual match, Cech only had to make 2 saves as he let in a penalty in the process.

Calum Chambers: 7/10

In only his second Premier League start of the season, Calum Chambers put in an adequate performance that may change Arsène Wenger’s January transfer plans. Despite being involved in the controversial penalty incident, Chambers won 2 aerials, made 1 tackle and made 8 crucial clearances.

Shkodran Mustafi: 6/10

Since coming back from injury, the German has looked shaky in a positional sense but assured in terms 1v1 defending. Against West Brom, he showcased both of those traits. If Robson-Kanu and Rodriguez were a bit pacier, Mustafi’s night could have been a whole lot different.

Laurent Koscielny: 6/10

Recent performances from the Frenchman haven’t filled the Arsenal faithful with much confidence. But at the Hawthorns, Koscielny put in an assured performance that covered for the inadequacies of Mustafi. The 32-year-old completed 67% of his tackles, made 5 clearances and won 4 aerial duels.

Hector Bellerin: 6/10

Hector Bellerín has been criticised this season for not taking risks and adding much to Arsenal’s build-up play. The Spaniard didn’t do much to negate those criticisms as he attempted no take-ons and only created 2 chances in the whole 90 minutes.

Jack Wilshere: 7/10

Another start for Jack Wilshere, another solid performance. With no Mesut Özil in the side, creative responsibilities were heaped onto the shoulders of the Englishman. He completed 59 passes, completed 2 take-ons and made 2 interceptions.

Granit Xhaka: 6/10

As the anchorman of Arsenal’s midfield, Granit Xhaka found himself more in the final third than the middle third. The 25-year-old completed 86% of his passes and in turn created 2 chances through the middle.

Sead Kolašinac: 5/10

Back in the starting XI, Kolašinac didn’t do enough to mark his territory before getting injured. The Bosnian created 0 chances and only made 1 tackle all game.

Alex Iwobi: 5/10

Alex Iwobi is a bright prospect but many feel he is not of the standard to be starting for Arsenal football club. Out on the right wing, Arsenal needed Iwobi to take on players and make things happen, he was only able to create 2 chances whilst not completing a single successful take-on.

Alexis Sanchez: 7/10

The spotlight has been on the Chilean’s commitment this season, in response, he tried his best to drag along with him an average team. Apart from scoring Arsenal’s only goal, Sanchez created 3 chances, attempted 6 shots on goal, took 5 corners and completed 43 passes.

Alexandre Lacazette: 6/10

Another game, another blank for the Frenchman. Lacazette’s league tally now stands at 8 goals in 21 league appearances, a commendable but not exceptional total. Up against a low-block West Brom defence, the £52m-rated striker created 1 chance, completed 1 dribble and attempted 3 shots on goal in a frustrating performance.

Substitutes

Ainsley Maitland-Niles: 6/10

The youngster came on and instantly showed Arsenal fans why the boss has favoured him in recent games. His drive to get forward instantly helped Arsenal push West Brom onto the back foot.

Per Mertesacker: 6/10

The former World Cup winner came on for a struggling Laurent Koscielny and instantly looked out of place.

Danny Welbeck: N/A

The Englishman had limited time to make any kind of impact of the pitch.
