English Premier League: Gameweek 7 preview

Game week
Game week 7 of the Premier League promising to be an exciting affair

The weekend is here and the English Premier League will be full of action with ten fixtures set to see teams fighting to climb up the table. The weekend fixtures are as follows:

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN vs TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

David Wagner will be facing Mauricio Pochettino for the first time in the Premier League, after having an impressive start since they got promoted from the championship. Huddersfield Town has managed to get nine out of the available 18 points from the six matches played, while Spurs will be hoping to catch up with their city counterparts Chelsea, who play Manchester City later on in the day.

Pochettino's men have been impressive in the UEFA Champions League so far, having registered wins against Borussia Dortmund and APOEL Nicosia, but are struggling at home, especially against "smaller teams", evident from their fixtures against Burnley and Swansea, whereby they clinched a point from each.

The fact that Huddersfield Town have only conceded three goals in the Premier league so far means that their defence is mean and they will fight to the end. Even though Spurs are the favourites to win this fixture, they will not find it easy at the Kirklees Stadium.

AFC BOURNEMOUTH vs LEICESTER CITY

The former champions will be playing at the Vitality Stadium, a place where they have only managed one win in their last three visits. One may argue that Leicester City are having a false start to the league and that they are expected to climb further up the table having played difficult matches against better sides, losing to Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, but their performances have not been that bad.

On the other hand, AFC Bournemouth have been registering negative results so far, winning one and losing five matches, with Arsenal and Manchester City being the most difficult matches that the Eddie Howe managed team have faced. Leicester City under Craig Shakespeare are the favourites but a draw will not be shocking.

MANCHESTER UNITED vs CRYSTAL PALACE

Gianni Infantino Launches FIFA Presidential Campaign Manifesto

The Red Devils have not lost a match this season and do not look like they will be loosing this weekend after their 4-1 hammering of CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are the only team who have not scored a goal in the campaign so far. After being sent off in their match against Southampton, Jose Mourinho will be watching from the stands as his team play the relegation side, with three points almost assured.

STOKE CITY vs SOUTHAMPTON

This fixture will be one of the hardest of the day since both teams are not high scorers, with each of them winning three times, losing three times and drawing five times in their last eleven head to head meetings.

Needless to say, the Stoke City fans might end up being disappointed at the Bet 365 Stadium, because the likely event in this fixture is that Southampton may end up running away with the three points considering that they only lost by a goal to Manchester United, while Stoke were wrecked by Chelsea, who scored four goals against them, thanks to their defensive errors.

Despite the former results against better sides, this match will produce very few goals.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION vs WATFORD

Both teams have had a fair start to the league with Watford, who lead their counterparts with three points recording better results. That should not be a worry though, since West Brom went through tough fixtures, losing to both Manchester City and Arsenal in their last two matches, while Watford were thrashed by Manchester City 6-0 even though they redeemed themselves against Swansea in their last outing.

It is difficult to predict the winner in this fixture but West Brom look more likely to emerge victorious.

WEST HAM vs SWANSEA CITY

The Hammers, who are playing at their temporary home, the London Stadium, despite signing one of the best strikers in Hernandez, have not impressed so far and are lying in the relegation zone.

Worst in their case, they boast of having one of the most generous defence lines in the league, having soaked in thirteen goals, a number only matched by Crystal Palace. Swansea City, on the other hand, are not any better since their goal difference better West Ham's by a goal.

In their last five matches, when playing home to West Ham, they have lost four times. Having had scored more times than their opponents, West Ham are the favourites to win in this fixture as they look forward to getting out of the relegation zone.

CHELSEA vs MANCHESTER CITY

It has now become difficult to predict who the title favourite will be between these two giants, with both teams recording impressive results in their back to back fixtures in the league. Needless to say, they both have impressive midfielders as well as forwards, even though Manchester City will be without their top scorer Sergio Aguero who has been sidelined after an accident which saw him crack a rib.

With Chelsea playing at home with no injury challenges, unlike their counterparts, who are experiencing both striking and defensive injury challenges, the likely event is that the defending champions will clinch the three points from this fixture, which will be a repeat of last season, where they beat the City boys 2-1.

ARSENAL vs BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Arsenal will be looking to continue their impressive form after winning four of their last five matches. Even though they are three points behind the gunners, Brighton and Hove Albion will give the game a good fight, having conceded fewer times than the Arsene Wenger managed team.

Playing at home, the gunners are the favourites to clinch the three points from this fixture, but are disadvantaged having played a Europa League match on Thursday, a period which might have seen the Chris Hughton boys prepare well to face the challenge.

EVERTON vs BURNLEY

After selling Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United and signing Wayne Rooney in return,as a replacement, Everton have been struggling in the league, and are fourteenth with seven points. On the other hand, Burnley have had a better start, winning their opening game against the champions and drawing against Liverpool and Tottenham.

Even though they have only won once against Everton in their last four matches, they go into this fixture as favourites to win away. Everton have to sort out their defensive challenges in order to win since they have been letting in more goals than they have scored.

NEWCASTLE UNITED vs LIVERPOOL

Rafael Benitez will be facing the side that he won the Champions League with for the first time, after being promoted to the league from the championship. In their last twelve meetings, Liverpool have been victorious in five, while Newcastle has won four times, and drawn three times.

Even though Liverpool have scored double pf what Newcastle have managed this season, they have soaked in more than twice the goals their opponents have conceded. It is, therefore, clear that this fixture will produce more goals with neither team being the favourite to win, even though Newcastle United look more likely to clinch the three points and improve their standing in the league table and surprise the Reds.
