EPL-The Contenders

Rejoice all the football fans, the wait is over. After a two month hiatus, EPL finally returns today. Predicting such a closely fought league can be a hazardous job but here goes-

Manchester City

Bankrolled by the Shiek’s oil money, the noisy neighbours, after years of living in the shadows of Manchester United, finally arrived last season. The defending champions have a settled squad and winning the last year title in dramatic manner on last day would have helped them foster a winning mentality and team spirit. The Tevez-Aguero partnership has been looking good in pre-season and with Toure, Nasri and Silva behind them, they could prove deadly. Though they have had an unusually quiet transfer season with only Jack Rodwell being the major signing, they have more than enough talent in the squad to win them another title.

Prediction-1st

Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson has done a remarkable job in keeping Manchester United in title contention given the crippling debt put on the club by the Glazers. He made a signal of intent when he got Robin Van Persie from bitter rivals, Arsenal. Rooney and RVP are two of the most prolific strikers in the league and their pairing is bound to be one of the most feared in EPL. A lot will depend on talented Shinji Kagawa, who has been bought to replenish almost empty midfield which led to them calling up Scholes from retirement last season. But you can trust Fergie that City won’t be having it easy this time around also..

Prediction-2nd

Chelsea

Though they won the Champions League and FA cup, Chelsea had a disappointing Premier League campaign settling for 6th place last season (their lowest since their takeover). Abrahamovic is certainly not sitting on past laurels and has gone on a spending spree to bolster the aging midfield with signings like Hazard, Oscar and Marin. Add Mata to the fold and Chelsea have got an extremely talented creative core. With Drogba gone and the midfield providing enough support, Torres will have his chance to shine and justify his 50 million price tag. After an extraordinary first season, Di Matteo faces a tough task of rebuilding the squad while performing well in all competitions and will be happy with challenging for the title.

Prediction-3rd

Arsenal

Again there has been an inevitable talent drain from Arsenal. Club Captain Van Persie has already left with Alex Song likely to join Barcelona. Wenger seems to have learnt from his mistake and unlike last time when they had to buy last minute replacements for Nasri-Fabregas, the Gunners prepared in advance for RVP’s imminent departure by buying replacements like Oliver Giroud and Lukas Podolski. Acquiring Santi Cazorla from Malaga seems like a smart buy. ’The Professor’, like many past years, should be able to guide them to a Champion’s league spot but will probably have to wait till Fair Play rules are enforced to end their title drought.
