To say that the Premier League has gotten off to a wild start would be an understatement. The mighty Manchester teams have fallen to the likes of West brom and Aston Villa. Arsenal is at the top of the table and Everton is the only team which is unbeaten at the moment.
This week is a crucial one for all of the above mentioned teams. All of them have played 6 games and therefore, have had enough time to figure out their strengths and weaknesses. With the quarter mark of the season coming up soon, every team will be trying to get into the groove.
Following are my predictions for Week 7 of the EPL.
Game of the week: Manchester City Vs. Everton
Prediction: 2-1
The only unbeaten team in the league right now is fourth placed Everton. And their record will probably be broken at The Etihad Stadium this weekend.
This Everton side is definitely talented enough to win this side. Romelu Lukaku is coming off a brace last weekend. Kevin Mirallas, Leighton Baines, Ross Barkley have all been stellar so far and Gareth Barry has really stitched the midfield together. This is an excellent side and they will put up a strong fight against the inconsistent City.
While City is inconsistent, at home, they remain extremely dominant. They are 3 for 3 in their home games in this season. Also, City are definitely more talented with the likes of Yaya Toure, David Silva and Sergio Aguero back in action. This will definitely be a game to look out for, but City will come away with a 2-1 win.
Liverpool Vs Crystal Palace
Prediction: 3-1
2nd placed Liverpool against 19th placed Crystal Palace.
The strike pair of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge will be one to look out for. Sturridge looks more like a supplier while Suarez is the enforcer.
Against Newcastle, this pair had a field day as they ran amok within the Black Cats’ defense. In that vein, Crystal Palace’s defense isn’t a lot better, if not worse. They have leaked 10 goals so far, the third most in the league.
With an in-form strike pair and a sluggish defense, this game will be a blowout and Liverpool will come out on top with a 3-1 win.
Sunderland Vs Manchester United
Prediction: 0-2
United travel to Saturday after a forgettable couple of weeks and a tiresome midweek visit to Ukraine. This would be the perfect time for them to face the league’s bottom side.
Both teams are at an all time low, but the only difference is, United have more than enough munition to change this scenario. Sunderland’s head coach Paolo di Canio was axed and this means that there’ll be a certain amount of confusion in the locker rooms.
United are desperate for a win. This would be the perfect moment for Moyes to unleash United’s offensive capabilities and alleviate the tension between him and the fans.
Expect the league’s deadliest strike pair RVP and Wayne Rooney to attack this hapless Sunderland squad with a vengeance.
Tottenham Vs West Ham
Prediction: 3-0
Tottenham are sitting at the no. 3 spot right now, with a 4-1-1 record. They have allowed only 2 goals this season and both came against quality teams like Chelsea and Arsenal. Also, Tottenham has really started coming together as a unit.
West Ham started this season with a 2-0 win but they have since then entered a win-less streak throughout the last 4 games. They have scored 4 goals, let through 5 out of which 4 came in the last two games.
With Tottenham in form and West Ham anything but in form, expect Tottenham to destroy West Ham and stamp their mark as one of the legitimate title contenders this season.
West Brom Vs Arsenal
Prediction: 1-3
West Brom hasn’t beaten Arsenal in three years and I don’t see that changing this week. Arsenal is currently at the top of the table, having won 5 of their 6 games this season.
While West Brom’s win over United at Old Trafford will be a good confidence booster, that is in no way an indication that they’re anywhere close to this Gunners’ team.
Last Week, Arsenal won against Marseille and Stoke City. They are on one of their best starts in recent years and I expect them to continue it unhindered this week.
West Brom might, at best, score 1 goal but Arsenal will win by a difference of two goals.
Norwich Vs Chelsea
Prediction: 0-2
Chelsea have just returned from a gruelling mid week trip to Bucharest and will be travelling to Norwich for their 7th Premier League game this week. This game is very crucial for The Blues. Although they have had a good start this season, they need to put together a string of wins if they have serious title contention hopes. And what better opportunity than at Carrow Road?
Jose Mourinho has started fielding Juan Mata more these days, which will keep the fans happy. The Blues have also started to come together offensively.
Norwich has won just 1 out of 3 games in front of their fans this season. Don’t expect the home advantage to play a huge role, as Chelsea will probably have too much in their tank for this Norwich side.
Other predictions:
Cardiff Vs Newcastle: 2-3
Fulham Vs Stoke: 0-0
Hull Vs Aston Villa: 1-2
Southampton Vs Swansea: 1-0
