Cahill's drastic collision with 'keeper Joe Hart during a friendly between England and Belgium.

England and Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has been ruled out of Euro 2012 after suffering a double-fracture of his jaw during England’s friendly against Belgium. The Football Association (FA) have confirmed that Liverpool right-back Martin Kelly has been called in from the reserve squad as a replacement, subject to UEFA approval.

Cahill is the fourth player Roy Hodgson has lost to injury, after ‘keeper John Ruddy and midfielders Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard.

Gary Cahill suffered the injury when Belgian Dries Merten’s pushed him into ‘keeper Joe Hart, as he tried to shield the ball from Mertens, in th 19th. He was immediately replaced by Manchester City player Joleon Lescott. The injury severely damages England’s hopes of success at the Euro 2012, as he and John Terry were the preferred centre-back pairing going into the tournament.

England fans have been fed some good news as the statement from the FA confirmed John Terry’s fitness : “John Terry has been scanned this morning and given the all clear. He will be re-assessed on Tuesday when the team regroup.”
