France storm into the quarter-final of UEFA Euro 2016 after Antonie Griezmann’s heroics helped them earn a 2-1 victory over Republic of Ireland. The Boys in Green started the proceedings with a very early goal as Robbie Brady scored from the spot in the second minute, after Shane Long was fouled inside the box by Paul Pogba.
France lacked the quality as they were unable to penetrate the Irish defense in the first half. But the second half was a different story altogether. Antonie Griezmann scored a brace as France came from behind to secure their position in the quarter-final. Shane Duffy’s sending off in the 66th minute added to the agony of the Irish as France secured a 2-1 victory. Les Blues will now face the winner of Iceland vs England in the quarter-final.
