Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has urged his old club to secure England international Adam Lallana’s signature.
The 26-year-old had a superb season with Southampton and as a result Lallana has been the subject of more than one bid from Liverpool.
The midfielder has made it clear that he wants to join Liverpool and with team-mate Rickie Lambert close to a move to Anfield Hamann has told Goal that he thinks Liverpool should make it a double swoop.
“Lallana will give us more balance in the depth of the squad. Next season we will compete in many competitions and probably will get more injuries and suspensions,” Hamann said.
“His position is what we need at the moment and I think he will be suitable for us.”
Liverpool surpassed all expectations these season by qualifying for the Champions League, and they went extremely close to winning the title, before eventually losing out to Manchester City.
The squad however is a problem with some serious depth issues and Brendan Rodgers has moved to address this and the signing of Adam Lallana would undoubtedly bolster the squad.
Hamann seemed confident that the deal for Lallana could be concluded despite Southampton holding out for close to £30 million.
“I think we can sign Lallana. If you see how we played last season, I think many players will be interested to play with us.
“Liverpool have a great project for the future and we have a chance to sign him.”
