Real Madrid and Portugal defender Fabio Coentrao has rubbed salt into Manchester United‘s wounds stating that he was glad he didn’t join the English Champions, The Metro reports.
The 25-year-old almost joined United on a season long loan on the last day of the transfer window, but the paper work wasn’t completed in time for the player to make the switch.
Coentrao stated that he is glad he stayed at Real Madrid as they are ‘the best club in the world’.
“There was the possibility of joining Manchester United, but I stayed at Real Madrid, and that’s what matters,’” he declared.
“It would have been bad if I had to stay despite having the chance to move to a better club, but that didn’t happen as I already am at the best club in the world.
“I want to do better than I did last season, although I was at a very high level already. I want to show everyone that I deserve to be at Real Madrid.”
The Portugal international has made 36 appearances for Real Madrid and has been capped 38 times by Portugal.
