A low scoring gameweek was not what most managers had in mind as the average score stood a low 40 points. Most premium players failed to deliver and this was the main reason why almost everybody ended up clocking menial scores. Manchester City’s Yaya Toure started his first match this season after his agent’s feud with Guardiola and the Ivory Coast international did not disappoint the manager, as he scored the winner against Crystal Palace.
Arsenal again could not get a win against United at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Olivier Giroud’s late 89th-minute header gave the Gunners fans a sigh of relief as they salvaged a draw after going a goal down which was scored by Juan Mata in the second half as well. Liverpool also managed to drop points as their match against Southampton ended up a goalless draw. London rivals Tottenham and Chelsea won their respective matches and the Blues are now top of the league. Here are 5 players we believe could do well in the coming gameweek:
#5 Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian has now truly regained match fitness and should be a definite inclusion in your team. His form this season has been stellar and he has amassed a total of 31 points in the last 4 gameweeks bar the Southampton game where Liverpool drew a blank. Under Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool midfield has combined brilliantly and Coutinho has been one of their key players.
Coutinho is also a big threat from set pieces and this makes him an added threat. A fixture against Sunderland should be a walk in the park for Liverpool but at the same time you can never underestimate a team in the English Premier League.
Next 3 fixtures: Sunderland(H), Bournemouth(A), West Ham(H)
#4 Gylfi Sigurdsson
Swansea’s Sigurdsson has surely been one of the most consistent performers for the team in the last two seasons when it comes to Fantasy Premier League. He has given decent returns and is available at a cut price of 7.2m.
With great fixtures coming up for Swansea, this is the right time to grab the Icelander as his stock will only increase from here. The player also takes set pieces for his team and is a huge contender for bonus points as well. His price and form combined with the fixtures that are on his way make Siggurdson a worthy player to have in your midfield.
Next 3 fixtures: Crystal Palace(H), Spurs(A), Sunderland(H)
#3 Petr Cech
The goalkeeper performed well against Manchester United but unfortunately conceded a goal due to a lapse in the Arsenal defence. The keeper is in good form and is reliable when it comes to handling the ball. Against United, he also proved his shot stopping ability as he pulled off a couple of solid saves.
The Gunners are not in the best of forms right now, but a fixture against Bournemouth at home may just be the one that changes their fortune for the good. Cech is also the cheapest way into the Gunners defence and is highly recommended if you want a stable goalkeeper option.
Next 3 fixtures: Bournemouth(H), West Ham(A), Stoke(H)
#2 Christian Fuchs
Leicester have surely not had a fairy tale this season and are currently at the 14th position in the table, two points above the relegation zone. However, this should not deter you from picking Christian Fuchs. The left back is a good pick since he promises points not just from clean sheets but corners and set pieces as well.
The defender made a name for himself the last season with some brilliant forward runs and was directly involved in quite a few goals for Leicester City. The defending champions have definitely suffered without midfielder Kante and the manager may have to do his best to get the Foxes back on track. The team faces Middlesbrough who’ve proven to be a tough nut to crack but at the same time have not been efficient while going forward. Ranieri’s men will definitely want to win this one and hope that this begins their turnaround in the league.
Next 3 fixtures: Middlesbrough(H), Sunderland(A), Manchester City(H)
#1 Sergio Aguero
A fit Aguero is often the most devastating player when it comes to Fantasy Premier League. The Argentine can convert any match into a goal fest and the coming fixture is no different. Under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City have created a multitude of chances and Aguero has delivered more often than not. Although the forward comes at a hefty price of over 13m and has not performed to the best of his abilities, you cannot negate the fact that Aguero can score big at absolutely any moment.
The risk may be high especially when you see his price but the rewards are often higher. This gameweek, City are up against Burnley, another team who’ve been brilliant at the back under the leadership of goalkeeper and captain Tom Heaton. Manager Pep Guardiola may have to ensure that his team turns up if he wants to win this one.
Next 3 fixtures: Burnley(A), Chelsea(H), Leicester(A)
