After wrapping up the La Liga title, Barcelona already have started to strengthen up for next season as reports coming out of Spain suggest that they are on the verge of signing Sporting Gijon’s 21-year-old left back Jose Angel.
The young defender has been in fine form in the current campaign. Having graduated from the Gijon Academy, he has developed into an important first team member for the Rojiblancos and has also represented Spain at U-21 level.
According to Guillem Balague, a renowned Sky Sports journalist, English clubs like Everton, Liverpool, West Ham United and Tottenham were also interested in the player but now it seems like Barcelona have won the race for the young defender.
Barcelona have been a long term admirer of the player as they look to strengthen their back-line and also bring some depth to it. It has been reported that Gijon club president Manuel Vega-Arango is expected to travel to Catalunya on Monday to complete the deal.
The Camp Nou giants are willing to pay a fee in the region of €4 million (£3.5m) for the player, who will sign a four-year contract upon completion of his medical.
