S.S. Lazio v Fenerbahce SK - UEFA Europa League Quarter Final

Ankara - Turkish football club Fenerbahce will submit its defence on match-fixing charges at the House of European Football in Nyo today.

In its defence, Fenerbahce will argue against being punished for the same crime twice and inconsistencies in UEFA’s treatment of the club.

The Istanbul-based team was summoned by the Control and Disciplinary Body of UEFA June 10 regarding charges first leveled against the club at the end of the 2010-11 season. Also summoned by European football’s governing body were fellow Istanbul team Besiktas and FC Steaua Bucharest of Romania.

“The UEFA disciplinary inspector has submitted his findings to the Control and Disciplinary Body, in the context of disciplinary proceedings against this club and five club officials,” read a statement on UEFA’s website.

The findings will be presented Saturday, June 22, and the results will be announced within the following week.

Earlier in the year, Europol announced its findings involving a vast criminal rigging and betting organisation that fixed matches in top football matches around the world. Turkey has struggled with the distinction of having the most rigged matches in the Europol investigation.
