Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has gone on record to state his admiration for current Atletico Madrid manager and former team-mate Diego Simeone, opening the door to a possible summer move.
This could be a major boost for the Blues in their pursuit of Diego Costa, who they have earmarked as their top transfer target alongside Radamel Falcao in the summer.
Chelsea’s record signing has not ruled out the possibility of making an emotional return to his former club, where he made his name as an upcoming youngster.
“In football you never know. You can’t be sure where you’re going to be tomorrow or in a week or in 10 years.
“I have a lot of admiration for the manager Diego Simeone from when we were team-mates (at Atletico).” he said.
“He helped me a lot. He taught me many things in our seasons together at Atleti. I always want to work alongside people I admire.” he added.
Jose Mourinho and Roman Abromovic will now have an edge over their rivals as they chase hot property Diego Costa in the summer, using the former Liverpool man as leverage.
