EA has changed a lot of aspects in their latest game, with a plethora of new features like “The Journey”, which sees a young player dream of starring in the Premier League, and the new Frostbite engine, which should lead to better graphics in the game.

Set-pieces in the game have also been revamped, and AI players will make more intelligent runs. Marco Reus will be FIFA 17’s cover star, replacing Lionel Messi.

With FIFA constantly upgrading the players through patches and updates throughout the season, there is no doubt that some stars this season will have huge upgrades in their stats.

Here are the five players who should get the highest upgrades in this season’s FIFA.

#5 Riyad Mahrez – 82

Riyad Mahrez was exceptional last season and was a crucial part of Leicester’s fairytale win last season. Leicester signed him for just £400,000 from Le Havre and was easily the best signing in world football last season. The Foxes showed the importance of team spirit, as the underdogs held on to achieve the unexpected.

Mahrez lit up the Premier League, with 17 goals and 11 assists and attracted a lot of interest from big clubs, but to Leicester’s relief, he penned a new contract. The Algerian has already opened his scoring this season, and looked sharp in the pre-season, as well, against the likes of Celtic and Barcelona, among others.

Mahrez was rated 74 in FIFA 16, and should see a minimum increase of +8 after the sensational season he’s had. The entire squad Leicester might get an upgrade in FIFA’s latest offering.

#4 Kingsley Coman – 78

Coman has already featured for some of Europe’s biggest teams in his short career
Ad

Coman should see a +9 upgrade to his FIFA 16 rating of 69. Why? At just 19, Coman has played for European heavyweights like Juventus, PSG and Bayern Munich. He also featured in all of France’s matches at Euro 2016.

The youngster established himself as a first-team name for German champions, Bayern Munich, thanks to injuries to several key players. He did get lucky, but he gets full points for making use of the opportunity and looked like he belongs on the biggest stage.

Coman made 31 appearances in the Bundesliga and the Champions League last season, scoring 6 goals and providing 11 assists along the way. The Frenchman features 4th on our list.

The Nigerian youngster was rated 55 in FIFA 16, and should see a mammoth +15 upgrade to 70, after a decent season at Arsenal. Iwobi did not get too many games at the start of the campaign but became an instant hit in the second half as he showed his tremendous talent on the pitch.

His best match was against Barcelona in the Champions League, and he really showed what he’s all about. Iwobi is very versatile along the front line, and when Arsene Wenger figures out the perfect place to employ the 20-year old, he can be a world-class player.

Iwobi made 13 appearances, 5 from the bench, and managed to score a goal and provide an assist. Iwobi comes in at third on our list.

Marcus Rashford is going to make one of the biggest leaps in ratings, thanks to the dream start to his career. The English youngster made his United debut in January and featured for England at Euro 2016. Some even named Rashford as England’s brightest player in the tournament, despite playing for just 21 minutes in England’s embarrassing European campaign.

The youngster is 18 years old, and already has 9 goals in 20 appearances for United. The Englishman scored goals in his Europa League debut vs FC Midtjylland, Premier League debut vs Arsenal and derby debut vs Manchester City.

Rashford was rated 59 in FIFA 16 and after the dream start to his football career, and even inspiring ‘The Journey’ mode in FIFA 17, the 18-year old should see a huge +17 increase.

#1 Gianluigi Donnarumma – 72

AC Milan goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma tops our list
Ad

Gianluigi Donnarumma was a real revelation at AC Milan last year after he replaced former Real Madrid shot-stopper, Diego Lopez, in goal. He replaced Lopez against Sassuolo after the veteran keeper was sidelined due to injury and Donnarumma has since established himself as a regular in AC Milan’s starting line-up.

The Italian came out of nowhere to establish himself as one of the most promising goalkeepers in world football. He’s just 17 and pundits tip him to achieve great heights. ‘Gigio’ is also the youngest goalkeeper ever in Serie A and youngest player to represent the Italy U21 side.

The Italian didn’t feature in FIFA 16 and is expected to make a grand debut in FIFA 17. Given the fact that he wasn’t there in FIFA 16 at all, Donnarumma will get the highest upgrade (from nothing to 72).
