Chelsea completed the worst title defence in Premier League history last season as they finished a lowly 10th in the table. Jose Mourinho was sacked in December following a ‘palpable discord’ with the players and though interim manager Guus Hiddink was somehow able to steady the blue ship, the players looked far off from their best.
No player in the Chelsea squad performed at the desired level with the exception of Willian who was outstanding throughout the season. Eden Hazard in particular, who was the best player in the league the season before, looked a mere shadow of his former self, with Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas also failing to up the gear at any point of the season.

Nemanja Matic: 84 Overall
The big Serb had a disappointing last season to say the least.However. he does manage to hold on to his 84 rating and is attributed with 81 defense and 88 physicality.
Willian: 85 Overall
One of the very few bright sparks in Chelsea’s miserable season, Willian was the lone wolf in Chelsea’s army of kittens. He mesmerised fans with some delicious free kicks and was a constant threat to opponents down the right flank.
When the going got tough, Willian got going and he was deservedly rewarded with an 85 rating in FIFA 17, three ratings more than what he got in FIFA 16.
Diego Costa: 85 Overall
The volatile forward suffered niggling injuries throughout last season and endured a steep dip in form, scoring only 12 goals in the league.
He was often criticised for his diving antics on the field which didn’t help with his popularity nor Chelsea’s fortunes. Diego Costa is given a rating of 85 in FIFA 17, which is one point less than 86 in FIFA 16.
Cesc Fabregas: 86 Overall
Cesc Fabregas had a difficult season in 2015-16 where he seemed to lose his touch and impeccable passing ability. The Cesc fans had seen in Chelsea’s title winning season failed to replicate his form the next.
However, the Spaniard is still capable of pulling strings from midfield and deadly with the final pass. Therefore, his rating does not take a huge toll and he is only given a downgrade of one point to 86 compared to his 87 rating in FIFA 16.
Eden Hazard: 88 Overall
Eden Hazard gets a downgrade of a point in FIFA 17 as he is rated 88 (compared to 89 in FIFA 16). It is no surprise that he deserved the downgrade owing to his terrible form last season where he scored only four goals in the league.
An outstanding player at his best, Eden Hazard is touted to become one of the best players in the game post the Messi-Ronaldo era. However, he might not be destined for greatness in the eyes of several pundits and his new FIFA rating of 88 reflects that.
Thibaut Courtois: 89 Overall
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois got an upgrade of 3 points in the latest FIFA 17 rankings where he is given a rating of 89 compared to 86 in the last edition. The upgrade is unexpected because Courtois spent the majority of the first half of the season on the sidelines due to injury with Asmir Begovic deputising for him.
When he did return, Courtois wasn’t particularly impressive either. However, a good EURO 2016 campaign for Belgium was probably enough for him to get the upgrade in FIFA 17.
The rest of the ratings will be updated as soon as they are revealed.
