FIFA 17: Predicted player ratings for Borussia Dortmund

Sokratis
Sokratis Papastathopoulos will be the senior figure in the Dortmund backline after Hummels’ departure to Bayern

The latest edition of our favourite football game, EA Sports FIFA 17 is set to release in a month. The much-awaited game is coming out on multiple gaming platforms including PS3, PS4, XBox One, XBox 360 and PC. FIFA 17 is one of the most anticipated games in India, and may also release on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

The game includes a lot of new features including The Journey, which sees a young rookie live out his dream of playing in the Premier League, and the new Frostbite engine, which was previously used by EA Dice in Battlefield. FIFA has also changed the way set-pieces are taken, and AI players will make more intelligent runs.

Dortmund’s newly appointed skipper, Marco Reus is FIFA 17’s cover star, voted by fans among a selection of Rodrguez, Martial, Hazard and the German, himself.

Borussia Dortmund displayed some good football last season, and put incredible pressure on Bayern Munich, as the BVB fell just short in the 2nd place. The German club had a good run in the Europa League too, before former boss, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, ended their run in the quarters.

Dortmund has made some new exciting signings like Schurrle and Dembele among others, and also the return of their former hero, Mario Gotze. Come 2016-17 season, BVB will give it their all in the pursuit of becoming Germany’s best.

Let’s take a look at the predicted Borussia Dortmund player ratings in FIFA 17:

#1 Goalkeepers and defenders

The Dortmund defence have been dealt a huge blow after their skipper and best defender, Mats Hummels moved back to former club, Bayern Munich, but Dortmund is used to the big name departures every summer transfer window. Inspite of constant departures, they challenge for Germany’s top prize year after year, and come this season, they’ll fight it out at Westfalenstadion once against in front one of the most passionate fans in club football.

Roman Burki: 80 --> 81

The Swiss put up some solid performances in goal for Dortmund, keeping 12 clean sheets in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season. Burki is expected to be Dortmund's No.1 this coming season. Deserves the increase in rating.

Roman Weidenfeller: 79 → 76

The German veteran was a treat to watch in goal 2-3 seasons ago, but it seems like his good days are behind him. He’s been struggling and lost his first-team place to Burki. The German will get a few points downgrade.

Lukas Piszczek: 81 → 81

The Polish defender had a good outing at Euro 2016, and was consistently effective for his club, despite the few injury issues. He has done nothing to harm his 81 rating, and should manage to hold on to it.

Sokratis: 83 → 84

Sokratis is on the back of a brilliant season, where his defensive partnership with outgoing Dortmund skipper, Mats Hummels, played a vital role in Dortmund’s 2nd place finish. The Greek replaced Subotic in Dortmund’s first-team and has since done well to hold on to his place in the team. EA might reward him with a +1 increase.

Marc Bartra: 80 → 79

One of Dortmund’s new signings, Batra did not have a very impressive last season. However, the Spaniard has a lot of potential to develop into a world-class defender at Dortmund. The signing makes perfect sense for both the player and the club. He’ll probably lose a rating point, but that won’t harm his player profile much.

Marcel Schmelzer: 78 → 81

The German is one of the most under-rated left-backs in world back. Schmelzer is excellent in his defensive duties and executes the attacking role of a full-back very well. He had a fantastic season last year, with 6 assists to his name. Deserves to be rated in the 80’s.

Matthias Ginter: 77 → 78

Ginter has played both at CB and RB for Dortmund and has been consistent throughout. The young German will probably get a shot at Hummels’ vacant spot, and the +1 increase.

Erik Durm: 76 → 77

The young German is very talented and is very promising in his left-back role. Showed loads of potential in the limited game-time he got, and should get more opportunities come next season. Durm can play in left-back or right-back positions.

Raphael Guerreiro: 76 → 78

The Portuguese is one of Dortmund’s new signing and had a superb season for Lorient in Ligue 1. Guerreiro can turn out to be a very good acquisition for the German club, and will probably get a +2 increase.

Joo-Ho Park: 75 → 76

The Korean was impressive when he got first-team opportunities in Europa League, especially when he scored a stunner against FC Krasnodar. He has shown some promising signs and deserves a slight increase.

#2 Midfielders

Gotze is back to where it all started

Dortmund’s midfield was brilliant once again last term, with the revelation of young star Julian Weigl. They’ve lost world-class midfielders in Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ikay Gundogan, but knowing Borussia Dortmund and their fans, it won’t dampen their incredible spirit.

Julian Weigl: 74 → 79

The young German has been a revelation at Dortmund last season and does a lot of defensive work to help the back 4 and at the same time is calm on the ball and had a 91% pass accuracy. Weigl has bags of potential, and will only get better from here.

Nuri Sahin: 81 → 80

Sahin was the hottest property in world football when he moved to Real Madrid, but his career has gone downhill since then. The Turkish international had an injury plagued season last year and found it hard to make it to the first-team, due to the brilliant performances by Weigl. EA will likely cut down his rating.

Shinji Kagawa: 82 → 83

Kagawa left Dortmund in 2012 only to return back to Westfalenstadion 2 years later. The Japanese international has loads of potential but failed to make a mark at Manchester United. However, he proved his class once again when he returned to Dortmund, having a fantastic season with 9 goals and 8 assists.

Marco Reus: 86 → 87

Reus was a part of the magnificent attacking trio of Lewandowski, Gotze and himself, who played huge roles in Dortmund’s 2 consecutive Bundesliga from 2010-12. Lewandowski and Gotze left for Munich, but Reus stayed loyal to his club through thick and thin.

He’s been rewarded for it by being handed the captain’s armband, and if not for the injuries, he’d easily be an 89-90 rated player. It’s only fair to upgrade his rating.

Gonzalo Castro: 81 → 82

Castro did not get many appearances this season but was influential whenever he took the field. With 4 goals and 9 assists, Castro will probably get an upgrade.

Sven Bender: 80 → 80

Bender was quietly consistent last season for Dortmund, and that should be enough to retain his 80 rating.

Moritz Leitner: 73 → 72

The German didn’t have the best of seasons at Dortmund last term, and that will probably reflect on his ratings in FIFA 17.

Mario Gotze: 84 → 84

After spending 3 seasons at Bayern Munich, Gotze is back to where it all started. He didn’t have the best time at Bayern, but at 24, he has the potential to be one of the world’s best in the near future.

BVB fans aren’t necessarily pleased with him after he forced a move to Munich, but helping Dortmund beat Bayern to Bundesliga title would go a long way in getting the fans behind him, once again.

#3 Forwards

Aubameyang is one of the world’s best strikers at the moment

Borussia Dortmund has got the perfect striker for their style of play, and Aubameyang has done his job flawlessly. The former Ligue 1 striker had 33 goals to his name in all competitions, and along with Reus, played a vital role in Dortmund’s charge for the title. Dortmund has also added new forwards in the form of Ousmane Dembele and Andre Schurrle.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 84 → 87

Aubameyang was exceptional last season, with 33 goals in all competition. The lighting quick Auba is effective in front of goal, and somehow, always manages to score. Good finishing with incredible pace easily makes him one of world football’s best strikers right now. The goal-scoring machine deserves a minimum rating of 87.

Adrian Ramos: 78 → 80

Ramos came on from the bench for most of his Bundesliga appearances but have been effective whenever called on. He went on to score 9 goals and provide 4 assists, definitely deserving the +2 rating.

Andre Schurrle: 80 → 80

Another one of Dortmund’s new signing, Schurrle has moved from Wolfsburg after a good season. He was pretty efficient and has a knack of scoring goals and assists. BVB fans will hope Schurrle and Gotze can recreate more goals like their World Cup winner.

Ousmane Dembele: 67 → 77

The young Frenchman is another one of Dortmund’s summer signings and has already shown what he is capable of n Dortmund’s pre-season. Dortmund had a good pre-season run, and this man played a vital role in the matches. The standout moment was his solo goal against Manchester United. He should have a +10 bump in his player rating.
