FIFA announce goal-line technology provider for FIFA Confederations Cup 2013

GoalControl GmbH has been confirmed as the official goal-line technology provider for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 in Brazil.

The German company uses 14 high-speed cameras around the ground as a part of its GoalControl-4D system. It was selected ahead of the three other FIFA-licensed GLT providers who participated in the bid. The process of bidding began in February and involved bid presentations at the Home of FIFA in Zurich as well as site inspections in Brazil. GoalControl GmbH is also believed to be GLT provider for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

The decision was made specially citing the tournaments in Brazil and also the company’s efficiency in adapting to local conditions and the compatibility of each GLT system in relation to FIFA match operations. The respective bids were also judged on the basis of cost and project management factors such as staffing and time schedules for installation.

The use of GoalControl-4D in Brazil is subject to a final installation test at each stadium where the system will be installed. The technology was also used in last December’s FIFA Club World Cup.
