India moved up two spots to 154 in the FIFA Rankings according to the latest release, which came out on Thursday. India also jumped one place to 3oth in the Asian Rankings.
The SAFF Championship 2013 runners-up share the 154th spot with Guyana and remain the second highest nation in South Asia behind AFC Challenge Cup 2014 participants Afghanistan, who are at 138.
India were last in action in both the FIFA match dates of November at Siliguri’s Kanchenjunga Stadium. Wim Koevermans’ side held higher-ranked Philippines to a 1-1 draw and defeated neighbours Nepal 2-0. Those results saw India jump to 148 in November but they dropped to 154 in December and then 156 last month.
The next FIFA match date is on March 5 and India will be in action against neighbours Bangladesh, who are placed at 164th spot. The result of that encounter will be considered for the next release of the FIFA Rankings, which is scheduled for March 13.
