The whole world might be busy following the biggest footballing carnival on the planet, The 2014 FIFA World Cup, in Brazil, but the has not stooped the FIFA officials who work tirelessly for the success of very FIFA event for kick starting the journey towards another globe footballing event.
This time, it was the iconic Museum of Nature, situated in the Canadian city of Ottawa that played host to a FIFA delegation, who launched the official mascot of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Shuéme, the young female great white owl, was revealed as the official mascot for the 215 FIFA Women's World Cup, which will be held in Canada.
Shuéme was introduced at an event attended special guests which included Laureen Harper, Event Ambassador Kara Lang and National Organising Committee CEO, Peter Montopoli.
Talking about the mascot, FIFA Marketing Director Thierry Weil said, “Shuéme is the perfect embodiment of the values and qualities of women’s football and she is certain to be a big hit with fans of all ages during the year ahead.”
“The importance of such a strong visual asset as part of the tournament’s overall brand identity cannot be overstated and Shuéme, whose proud outlook incorporates spirit, grace and power, is a great recruit to the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015 team.”
The name Shuéme is inspired by the French word for owl (chouette) as a tribute to Canada’s status as a bilingual nation. The great white owl has also been significant symbol for Canada throughout its history
“Shuéme is a symbol for Canada and we are absolutely thrilled to introduce her to Canadians and the many fans of the women’s game around the world," said Peter Montopoli, Chief Executive Officer for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 National Organising Committee. "A considerable amount of thought went into creating a character that children will adore, and that represents Canadians and the spirit of Canada from coast to coast."
