India is gearing up to host the much awaited FIFA U-17 World Cup. The fever of the biggest footballing event to be hosted in the country is truly catching on with less than a month to go. The preparations for a competition of this magnitude have been going on since the day India won the bid to host the World Cup in 2013.
10 venues were in the running to host World Cup games, out of which only six cities were shortlisted. After a thorough inspection by the FIFA authorities in October of last year, the six venues - Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Kochi, Goa, and Guwahati - were finalized.

#1 Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi
Named after the first Prime Minister of India, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the capital is one of the biggest arenas in the country. It is a multi utility stadium and has hosted various sports other than football. The stadium hosted the 1982 Asian Games and was also a venue for the 2010 Commonwealth games. Indian U-17 team will be based at this venue and will play their first match of the tournament against United States of America at this ground.

#2 Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati
Home of the ISL side, North East United, the stadium in Guwahati is also used for various other sports. The stadium is also known as Sarusajai Stadium and hosted the 33rd National Games. It was also one of the venues for the 2016 South Asian Games and for various friendlies and World Cup qualifiers for the Indian football team.

#3 Fatorda Stadium, Margao
Fatorda or the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is the sole international stadium in the picturesque state of Goa. Built in a record five month time, the stadium has been used for both football and cricket. It has been the host of nine one day internationals and numerous Asian Cup and World Cup qualifiers for the football side. The Fatorda Stadium is also the home ground for FC Goa and Churchill Brothers.

#4 DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai
Inaugurated in 2008, the DY Patil Stadium has hosted a number of football and cricket matches. Home of the Mumbai City FC, this stadium also hosted the 2014 ISL final. It has also hosted various home games for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

#5 Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi
Appreciated as one of the best-built stadiums in the country, the ground in Kochi is one of the largest football stadia in the country and third largest stadium for cricket in the world. It is the home of the ISL side Kerala Blasters and draws record crowd each season. The support of the public in this stadium is considered as its biggest plus point.
Capacity - 41,748 for the World Cup (original capacity - 75000)

#6 Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata
The Salt Lake Stadium has an iconic place in Indian football. It is often termed as the Mecca for the football in the country and is one of the largest stadiums in the world. Until it's renovation in 2011, Salt Lake was the second largest stadium in the world. But for the U-17 World Cup, the capacity at Kolkata is increased from 68,000 to 85,000. It is also the home ground for ISL side, Amar Tomar Kolkata.
