Here are 5 players from the Germany vs Costa Rica game yesterday who were excellent on the pitch. Keep an eye on these talented youngsters when they play their second group games on 10th October.
Jann-Fiete Arp
An obvious pick. Arp joined the team two days after the touched down in Goa due to the fact that he made his senior Bundesliga debut for Hamburg and in the process also made history by being the first player born in the year 2000 to play in the Bundesliga.
The striker, who scored two hattricks in the U17 Euros, picked up from where he left off by scoring the team's opening goal and assisting the winning goal. The young striker and captain wasn't very flashy yesterday but he made an impact whenever needed.
Nicholas Kuehn
An extremely underrated player, Nicholas was certainly pulling the strings and orchestrating most of the moves going forward yesterday. On some occasions, he even had to deal with taking on 4-5 players at a time, but deal with it he did, gliding through the heart of the Costa Rican team and even had a few shots on goal.
The young Wolfsburg midfielder also notched an assist by laying that all important pass to his teammate Arp which resulted in Germany's opening goal. Nicholas is one of the shortest players in the German team but that doesn't stop his silky movement and superb vision.
Elias Abouchabaka
RB Leipzig's Abouchabaka was brilliant yesterday. The midfielder, who operates mostly behind the striker as an attacking midfielder, also enjoys playing on the wings and making darting runs. He was instrumental in holding the team together and central in keeping possession.
Abouchabaka played a very technical game yesterday creating a few chances and was also a very strong presence in the midfield. No wonder the young, left-footed, number 10 is sometimes compared to Mesut Ozil, another left-footed, number 10.
Alexander Roman
Sure, Costa Rica were on the losing side yesterday but Alexander Roman, who was brought on in the second half, definitely changed the game in his team's favour. The young defender brought about a much-needed stability to the defence and made a whopping 7 interceptions in the 45 minutes that he played.
Roman also played a very vocal and physical role for the team; his presence definitely helped Costa Rica regain their confidence. Roman was a regular starter during Costa Rica's U-17 CONCACAF Championship and should definitely be back in the starting line up on Tuesday.
Josue Abarca
The winger played a very important role for his team making some brave runs forward, taking the German defenders head-on. Abarca was important in the first phase of the Costa Rica's plans where coach Camacho tried to catch Germany off-guard with counterattacking and high pressing football.
The forward also created a few chances that unfortunately couldn't be converted and even had two attempts on goal himself. In the 64th minute, his hard work paid off as he managed to gain possession of the ball in the box and lay a beautiful pass to his teammate Andres Gomez who put the ball into the back of the net to equalize for Costa Rica, a well-deserved assist.
Abarca could once again prove crucial in the game against Guinea and is definitely someone you should keep your eye on during the ongoing FIFA U17 World Cup.
