Last Modified Nov 12, 2022 07:55 GMT

The FIFA World Cup 2022 is set to take place in Qatar from 21st November 2022 to 18th December 2022. The FIFA World Cup usually takes place in the June-July period but due to climatic conditions in Qatar, it was decided that a Winter World Cup would be better for everyone.

This is the first-ever FIFA World Cup which will take place mid-season. As the regular league seasons will have already begun, a break will be issued for the duration of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the season will come to a halt before resuming post the World Cup. This is a highly unusual schedule and will certainly end up being very taxing on the players starting for their clubs as well as their national team.

What Is The Total FIFA World Cup Prize Money?

The total prize pool for the FIFA 2022 World Cup is over $700 million. The prize money is distributed amongst all participating teams. FIFA provides a basic amount to all teams to prepare for the FIFA World Cup. On top of that, the prize money depends on where you finish in the tournament.

Depending on where you are eliminated in the tournament, your prize money increases the further you make it through the tournament. FIFA also pays $209 million to the clubs for their players to participate in the FIFA World Cup. Insurance benefits account for approximately another $134 million.

How Much Will Each Team Earn For Participating?

Reportedly, the FIFA World Cup prize money for each participating team is $1.5 million. This is given to each team to prepare for the World Cup. This increases to $9 million at the group stages. The teams eliminated in the group stages receive $9 million each while 16 teams qualify for the knockout stages.

The prize money at the Round of 16 stage increases to $13 million. 8 teams who lose at the Round of 16 stages receive $13 million while the other 8 teams move on to the quarter-finals. The final eight teams are guaranteed at least $17million each. The 4 teams who get eliminated at this stage receive $17 million as the prize money. The top 4 teams receive further increments depending on their final position.

The 4th team gets $25 million. The 3rd placed team gets $27 million and the 2nd placed team gets $30 million. The winner of the FIFA World Cup 2022 will be rewarded a whopping $42 million.
