Everton, until this weekend, were the only team who hadn’t lost a game this season so far in the Premier League. The Toffees are looking strong under Roberto Martinez after the new boss pulled off a string of top deals in the summer transfer window.
Here are five players I think are vital to Everton this season..
The former Aston Villa man is an experienced central midfielder who has a number of caps for the England national team and also has a Premier League medal under his belt. The England international will sit and protect the back four and will generally strengthen the core spine of the Everton team.
Arguably Chelsea’s best centre forward, but if Everton keep him fit and scoring goals then I don’t see why the Toffees can’t go on and challenge for that all important Champions League place. The Belgium international is big, strong, and quick. He also knows where the back of the net is having 17 times for West Brom Albion last season.
Ross Barkley
The 19-year-old has made a great start to the season scoring against both Norwich City and Newcastle United as of late. The Goodison Park faithful have taken to the youngster especially as Everton boss has compared him to Paul Gascoigne with his wonderful balance and tremendous dribbling ability.
The former Wigan Athletic full back is the complete player. He not only has a die hard attitude when it comes to defending but has a willingness to get forward and attack, resulting in a tally of assists and goals. The England international is also a free kick specialist, recently scoring two free kicks against West Ham United at Upton Park.
The Everton captain has been a rock at the back so far this season, grinding out results and evidently keeping out the opposition. Not only is he the renowned centre back but also a commander on the pitch. With Jagielka, Barry and Lakaku down the spine of the team I think they will be strong and able to compete with the big boys this season.
