It’s been another eventful week in the Bundesliga, as we saw Schalke host in-form Dortmund, while we also Hertha Berlin giving Bayern Munich a slight scare, but here are the best stats from the weekend’s games.
Gladbach retake Champions League spot
Sunday night’s football was concluded with some wonderful football from Lucien Favre’s Gladbach side as they put Eintracht Frankfurt to the sword by four goals to one.
Gladbach made a sensational 641 passes, with a pass accuracy of 88%, thus highlighting the dominance they had over their opponents.
Hamburg’s awesome duo continue deadly form
In Bert van Marwijk’s first four games in charge of Hamburg, Rafael Van der Vaart and Pierre-Michel Lasogga have now combined to score an incredible nine goals.
As we see in the graph above, Lasogga was on hand to create a number of goal-scoring chances again against Freiburg, finally getting the vital goal and helping his side to all three points.
Pass marks for new Nurnberg coach in Stuttgart
Few would have given much hope to Der Club as they headed to Stuttgart on Friday, for new coach Gertjan Verbeek’s first game in charge of the struggling club.
Yet the relegation battlers fought hard and somehow managed to step up to the challenge and grab a point away to one of the Bundesliga’s most in from sides at the moment.
Nurnburg won an impressive 84% of their tackles, but looking at where the tackles were made, it’s clear they won a majority of their tackles high up the pitch, thus making it difficult for the opposition to settle on the ball.
Hertha take the game to Bayern
Although it was another three points for the Bundesliga and European champions on Saturday afternoon, it was a relatively tough affair against Hertha Berlin as the guests made things very uneasy for Bayern Munich.
As the graphic above shows, Hertha managed to get five shots on Manuel Neuer’s goal – just as many as Bayern got on their own goal – as well as a shot straight off the woodwork.
Bayern eventually managed to wrap the game up with a solitary goal, yet one does wonder what would have been if the recently promoted side had taken one more of their chances.
Dortmund run riot in first Revierderby
In the first Revierderby of this Bundesliga season, it was Borussia Dortmund who came away with the win by three goals to one.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nuri Sahin and Jakub Blaszczykowski were the three goalscorers for Jurgen Klopp’s side and as we can see from the graph above it wasn’t all that could have been from the second placed side.
Dortmund made a staggering 23 interceptions against Schalke, which shows how active Klopp’s team was off the ball and the desire they had to win the ball back.
A very tough tie, in which Dortmund don’t usually win, but they comfortably won following an impressive victory against Arsenal just days before, as Dortmund continue their best ever start to a Bundesliga season.
