The highlight of the game was an audacious Eric Cantona chip for Denis Irwin's goal. Cantona could have opened the scoring for United, but the Spurs goalkeeper saved his beautiful header. Brian McClair and Paul Parker scored a couple of quick goals to seal a sequence of three in five minutes before the hour-mark.

Cantona received praise after the match by both Alex Ferguson and United legend George Best for his performance.
