Five things we learned from Manchester United and Everton

1. Pendulum has just swung in City’s favour

After yesterday’s match against Everton, United are now just three points ahead of their local rivals Man City. United scored four goals at home and it wasn’t enough for them to see off Everton, as Steven Pienaar’s late equalizer made the defending Champions drop two vital points. City’s victory against Wolves made it even more difficult for United, as the gap between the two clubs is now just three points with three games to go.

2. Derby Day could be the Title Decider

With just three points separating the two sides, derby day match on 30th of April could be the title decider. If City manages to win the remaining three games, City can be crowned as the Champions. If United win the game against City it’ll give them a six points lead in the title race. Looking at the current scenario, it looks like City has got nothing to lose apart from waiting for United to throw away their lead in the title run-in. United need to do some home work on their defence if they want to keep their title aspirations alive.

3. Evra needs to know the position he’s suppose to play

Patrice Evra was everywhere on the pitch yesterday against Everton. He was at every possible attacking position he could get into, but failed defensively. Evra was very poor in defending and it’s not the first time it has happened this season. Evra’s form this season has been a cause of concern for many United fans. Football pundit’s believe that United need to find a replacement for Evra after making a series of errors this season and Everton’s first two goals came from the left after he was caught out of position. Evra was not the only defender who was poor yesterday, United’s entire defence was very poor overall.

4. Credit to David Moyes and his men

David Moyes and his men have given a tough time for Sir Alex Ferguson in recent years. Everton were pressing really hard from the word go. Everton’s hard work did pay off in the first half with little resistance from United’s defence. Fellaini and Jelavic were excellent in front for Everton. The duo rattled United’s defence yesterday and very few teams in the league have managed to do that. Credit must be given to Moyes as in the manner they have pulled up themselves after their Cup defeat to their local rivals Liverpool.

5. The best game of the season from a Neutrals point of view

The game against United and Everton had many twists and turns, especially in the dying minutes of the match. From an United fans point of view it was two points dropped. From Everton fans point of view it was a point gained at Old Trafford. But from a Neutral’s point of view it was a cracking match that saw six goals in the second half. No fights, no harsh tackles, no wrong decisions from the referee and his assistants that might have influenced the match, and it was a delight to watch the two teams play some attacking football.
