As Sir Alex Ferguson would have said, it is squeaky bum time—only now, it is of the transfer window. As the transfer window is about to slam shut, clubs all around Europe have gone berserk in order to secure last minute moves and tighten the screws of their squads.Almost every big club is being linked with some great names, showing us why we all love this sport so much—even though not a single top team kick the ball today. With only a few hours to go for clubs to make deals, here are some deadline day moves that could happen…
#6 Hernanes to Juventus
One of the most consistent performers in Serie A, Hernanes is a household name in both Italy and Brazil as the midfielder has been plying his trade in Italy for half a decade.
Once again, the maestro of transfer rumours, Gianluca di Marzio, reports that the Brazilian of Portuguese descent is close to joining Juventus, with the latter being in advance talks with rivals Inter for his signature. The fee is believed to be around €12 million.
With the departure of Arturo Vidal, the experience that has been lost could be gained with this signing and it is almost sure to happen given the source of this rumour.
#5 Axel Witsel to Tottenham Hotspur
Deadline day and Tottenham Hotspurs is a love story that trumps every werewolf-human love story that you watch on the big screen or television.
As the clock ticks to the end of the window, Spurs might just yet make a flamboyant signing that could lift their midfield to the levels it once had when Luka Modric donned their shirt.
Some things in life are certain. Similarly, some things in football are certain too. And one of them is Gianluca di Marzio being correct when it comes to transfer rumours.
And according to him, the London club have made an improved £25 million plus add-ons bid for the Belgian after their £18 million bid as rejected yesterday. However, it is also being reported that the Russian club are holding out a €100 million tag over him.
And that just about kills it. But you never know.
#4 Anthony Martial to Manchester United
This one seems out of the blue. A relatively unknown name until yesterday, Martial has risen to stardom since being linked to the Red Devils as many are going as far as claiming him to be the second coming of Christ.
One could be forgiven to think that even United think the same as, according to L’Equipe, the club have secured his signature for a deal that would see the 19-year-old move to Old Trafford for an astonishing and inscrutable €80 million.
The market these days is outright crazy, but this would be taking madness to another level. And given the nature of Louis van Gaal, this signing does suit him.
#3 Saido Berahino to Tottenham Hotspurs
Tottenham have had a relatively quiet—and, most importantly, sensible—transfer window where they have splashed the cash on 5 players that genuinely strengthen their squad.
However, they still seem a little out of depth in the attack department and this is why Spurs are doing all they can to acquire the signature of West Brom’s Saido Berahino. The Englishman had a great last season, scoring 20 goals in all competition, and manager Pochettino eyes him as a suitable challenger for Harry Kane.
The Baggies value him at £25 million, whereas Spurs are trying to snatch him for around £20 million. If reports are to be believed, West Brom could very well yield to the North London club’s desire on deadline day.
#2 Keylor Navas to Manchester United
One would think that signing David De Gea is unnecessary in the first place as the Costa Rican put in some phenomenal displays for the Whites in the first couple of games.
But Real Madrid is Real Madrid and making a statement is given more priority than necessity and what could echo more than signing the next Spain number 1? In all this, Keylor Navas becomes the obvious scapegoat and he could very well be a Manchester United player before the window shuts down.
According to Marca and RMC Sport, both the clubs are now in talks to send the former Levante goalkeeper to the other side and a deal worth €10 million would be enough for the Merengues to oblige.
#1 David De Gea to Real Madrid
The longest running saga in Europe this year could finally end tonight as several reports claim that the Spaniard might be on his way to the capital club.
The former Rojiblancos has been linked with the Blancos all summer, but the Manchester club didn’t seem to budge to the Galacticos’ demand. However, it all could change tonight as everything points towards the United keeper waking up tomorrow as a Real Madrid player.
He’s not going to come cheap, though, as the price tag that is being quoted is in the €30 million bracket and, separately, both the clubs are working on another deal that takes him to the Bernabeu at the expense of Real releasing Keylor Navas to the Old Trafford outfit.
