Football: Freiburg take Czech winger Pilar on loan

Czech international Vaclav Pilar was on Tuesday sent on loan to Freiburg from Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg for a year, which if successful could become a permanent move.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder – who is Freiburg’s third signing of the close season – has been at Wolfsburg for only a year but ruptured knee ligaments saw him fail to make a single appearance for them.

Pilar, who joined Wolfsburg after an impressive showing at Euro 2012 where he scored two goals, joins Mike Hanke and Felix Klaus as the new faces at Freiburg.

Freiburg, who will compete in next season’s Europa League after finishing fifth, have, however, seen a host of players leave including Jan Rosenthal and Cedric Makiadi.
