Football League 2018/19: Championship Season Preview

Birmingham City v Millwall - Sky Bet Championship
Who will win the EFL Championship this season?

#10 Leeds United

Elland Road Home of Leeds United FC 1996
Can Leeds United finally return to the top flight?

Leeds fans will be optimistic heading into the new year, with the veteran manager, Marco Bielsa having joined the club over the Summer.

The Yorkshire Club is currently one of the most fancied in the division, but it is worth remembering that their record with managers is horrendous, and that Bielsa himself spent time at two different clubs at last season.

The signing of Patrick Bamford from Middlesborough is a serious statement of intent though, and the arrival of Barry Douglas from Wolves is also a solid piece of business.

If Bielsa can steady the ship at Leeds, and put a halt on the managerial merry-go-round at the club, then there is a chance that they could live up to their pre-season hype. Given their track record though, there is every chance that they will undergo some sort of crisis at some point that will derail their season.

Prediction: 9th

#11 Middlesbrough

Aston Villa v Middlesbrough - Sky Bet Championship Play Off Semi Final:Second Leg
Tony Pulis' men will be hoping to go one better than last season's playoff finish

You can never count Tony Pulis out of a promotion race, and after having rejuvenated Middlesbrough towards the back end of last season, the former Stoke man will be hoping to go one further this year.

The loss of Patrick Bamford will be difficult for the club, but Pulis is a clever manager, and he clearly feels as though the money was worth it.

The signing of Aiden Flint was a great piece of business and the former Bristol City star will likely excel under Pulis' style of play.

Middlesbrough will run things very close this season, and a playoff spot looks highly likely.

Prediction: 4th

#12 Millwall

Millwall v Fulham - Sky Bet Championship
Millwall will be hoping to capitalize on their momentum from last season

Neil Harris' Millwall side surprised everybody last season when they came within three points of sneaking into the playoffs.

The club has been fairly quiet in the transfer market though, clearing out a lot of the deadwood and bringing in just three players.

The signing of Ben Amos, on loan from Bolton, is positive, and the arrival of Murray Wallace from Scunthorpe could also prove to be a nice piece of business, but it seems unlikely they will be able to replicate last season's success.

Harris should be able to guide them to a comfortable lower mid-table finish though, and most fans will be more than happy with that.

Prediction: 15th
