Brazil has been facing a stern test of its security preparations ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup as several demonstrators have raided the streets of Rio de Janeiro, creating chaos. With only four weeks to go until football’s biggest sporting event kicks off, questions are being raised about whether Brazilian officials will be able to handle the pressure during the tournament.Here are 10 of the most amazing and shocking photos from the several ongoing protest against the FIFA World Cup:

#1 Because Batman could be anybody

One of the demonstrators dressed up as Batman and took to the streets of Rio de Janeiro to voice his dissatisfaction with the money spent for the World Cup instead of using the same amount for better hospitals and schools.

#2 We are nothing here but just candles burning in the wind

One of the demonstrators burned a World Cup leaflet while wearing a Guy Fawkes mask to protest against the government which is said to have already spent over 7 billion Reais on the event. The total expected cost is over 32 billion Reais, almost three times the amount invested in South Africa for the FIFA World Cup in 2010.

#3 Not even the national team jersey is spared

Protesters burn a T-shirt of the Brazilian national football team as they demand free public transport and call for an end to corruption in the tournament.

#4 The Black Bloc

The Brazilian “black blocs” clash frequently with the police.

Their main goal is to prevent the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic games from taking place in the country.

Demonstrators have been swarming throughout the whole country to protest against the event that could become their economy’s driving force.

The riots have not been kind on human lives as there has been an increase in looting, car robberies and murders around the country.

As of now, there have been a reported 10 deaths, with more than 250 injured and 651 arrested.

The public have been continuously questioning the wisdom of hosting the World Cup when a lot of basic facilities are still lacking.

Numerous protesters were caught in clashes against the police who were allowed complete use of pepper spray and tear gas.

Bus drivers in Rio are said to have trashed up to 780 buses in a matter of just three days of strikes.
