When a new manager comes into a club, you expect there to be plenty of rumour and speculation about potential signings coming into the club. You expect the manager to want to stamp his authority on the squad and to build a team in his image.
What we have been reading for the last three days has simply been ridiculous!
So far this week, since Jose Mourinho returned to Chelsea, we have read all sorts of speculation and rumour of potential signings and it really is a joke based on what Mourinho ACTUALLY SAID in his interview with Chelsea TV.
Just to remind you, he said the following:
“We have to improve the team, and when I say improve the team people are already thinking about how many millions Chelsea are going to spend, and when I say improve the team I am saying improving by work. My work has to improve players and improve the team. If I don’t do that I am not happy with myself. If after that we can improve the team by buying a couple of players it is fantastic but I have to improve the team and the players with my work. That’s a priority, improve. “

Since that interview, we have seen reports of David Luiz, Branislav Ivanovic, Juan Mata and Fernando Torres being linked with moves away from the club.
As for players being linked with coming to Chelsea, this is the list of people that have been mentioned so far:
- Wesley Sneijder
- Zlatan Ibrahimovic
- Andre Schurrle
- Steven Jovetic
- Mario Gomez
- Edin Dzeko
- Paulinho
- Hulk
- Eliaquim Mangala
- Wayne Rooney
It’s ridiculous, isn’t it?
The best thing to do is read again the quote from Mourinho above, believe the fact that he wants to look at his current squad in pre season, work with them and then decide from there.
We will continue to be linked with more and more players in the coming weeks as players’ agents will want to use Chelsea and Mourinho to try and get better contracts for themselves. So I wouldn’t believe everything you read for the time being.
Just trust in Jose Mourinho, give him some time to work with the players in July and let’s see what happens.
