Rio de Janeiro, Sep 3 - Uruguay international striker Diego Forlan scored for the first time since his July move to Brazil’s Internacional.

Forlan’s double helped his team defeat Flamengo 4-1 Sunday.

Forlan struck in the 28th minute to cancel out former CSKA Moscow striker Vagner Love’s opener before adding another in the 66th minute at the Beira-Rio Stadium in Porto Alegre.

Brazil striker Leandro Damiao also found the net as Internacional moved to seventh in Brazil’s Serie A championship standings.

“It’s always nice to score, especially when the team needs it,” Forlan said after the match.

“Today I felt the goals were important because we came from a goal behind against a tough opponent.”

Forlan, who won the 2010 Golden Ball award for the best player at the World Cup in South Africa, scored just two goals in 20 matches for Inter Milan last season.

Before Sunday his only goals this year came during Uruguay’s 1-1 draw against Venezuela in June and Inter Milan’s 2-2 draw with Catania in March.

Forlan will miss Internacional’s upcoming fixtures against Sao Paulo and Fluminense due to international duty.

Uruguay will meet Colombia and Ecuador in World Cup qualifiers on Sep 7 and 11, respectively.
