Former captain Tony Adams thinks Arsenal won’t win Premier League next season

Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams has said that he does not think his old club will be able to win the Premier League next season, saying he believes the best they can hope for is another fourth placed finish.

Under Adams’ captaincy Arsenal won the league and cup double in the 1992-93 season but the club haven’t won the league title since 2004.

They managed to end their trophy drought last season with the FA Cup victory over Hull but nevertheless Adams does not believe they will win the title next season.

Speaking to the Express Adams said: “The club came under criticism for not winning a trophy and I was one of them! It was important for them to win that.”

“Hopefully it will be a pivotal moment in the careers of the squad members and they can go on and win league titles.

“However I don’t think they will win the title as Chelsea and Manchester City are blowing the league apart and Manchester United will come again.

“I don’t think Arsenal will finish any higher than 4th at the moment which is a little bit sad, but they needed to win the FA Cup because they had stick from the fans.

“They played some remarkable football at times last season, but they do leave themselves open.

“When they come up against big teams they tend to leave themselves too open because they want to play freely and roll teams over.”

Despite playing some fantastic football their lack of depth in certain areas cost them this season and it has already been acknowledged that Arsenal are a few signings short of challenging for silverware.

However so far in this transfer window the club has passed up the opportunity to resign former captain Cesc Fabregas and have allowed Bacary Sagna to leave the club with captain Thomas Vermaelen expected to follow suit.

Only champions Manchester City (12,144) had a higher Performance Score than Arsenal (11,089) last season in the Premier League.
