The Hague - Former Dutch football player and coach Ab Fafie died at the age of 71 Tuesday night, Dutch media reported on Thursday.
Rotterdam born Fafie played professional football at Feyenoord, Xerxes and PSV from 1959 to 1970. In 1981 he returned as an assistant coach at Feyenoord. From 1984 to 1986 he was head coach at Feyenoord, coaching Dutch legend Ruud Gullit among others, reports Xinhua.
In those two years as head coach of Feyenoord he was not able to capture any trophies. In both seasons, the Rotterdam based club finished third in the Dutch league.
Fafie later worked at AEK Athens, Ioaninna (Greece), AA Gent (Belgium), FC Utrecht, Go Ahead Eagles (Netherlands), AEK Larnaca (Cyprus), Bandung Raya and Persija Jakarta (Indonesia).
