Former Brazilian forward Adriano has been charged with links to a drug lord in the country’s capital Rio de Janerio. Prosecutors say that the former Internazionale player gave a drug dealer a motorbike that was used in criminal activities.
The 32-year old, who enjoyed a successful spell at the Italian club first in 2001 and then in 2004, was currently in the midle of holding talks with second division French side Le Havre.
The Brazilian police said that the footballer had purchased the bike in the name of the mother of Paulo Rogerio de Souza Paz, a noted drug dealer.The vehicle was later controlled by a powerful criminal gang known as Red Command.
Adriano, however, has denied all the allegations.Neither international media nor Brazilian media were able to reach him.
Adriano has been the last great striker to have emerged from the country traditionally known for producing the best in the position – Pele, Romario and Ronaldo to name a few. Adriano has 27 goals for Brazil in 48 international appearances.
