David Beckham has admitted that he has had ”a tough time” since retiring and has opened the possibility of playing again with his new club Miami.
The former England international, who won 115 caps for his country, has explored the possibility of starting a new MLS franchise in Miami and he has hinted that he could even play himself.
Beckham was speaking in a BBC One documentary called David Beckham: Into the Unknown and will be aired on Monday 9 June.
In the documentary Beckham says “There’s never been a player-owner but maybe?
“Now I go to watch a basketball game and, when you are watching athletes play at the top of their game, it gives me that itch again and I want to be back in the game and I start thinking to myself ‘Could I play again? Could I go back? Could I come out of retirement and start playing again?’”
Beckham enjoyed an illustrious playing career and played for Manchester United, Preston North End, Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
There was a clause in his contract whilst he was with the LA Galaxy that means he can purchase a Major League Soccer expansion team for £25 million. Beckham is aiming to introduce a Miami based team in either 2016 or 2017.
