The new Germany jersey emblazoned with four stars were sold out within 12 hours of its release. The four stars commemorate Germany's World Cup triumphs, the fourth one coming on Sunday versus Argentina.
Mario Gotze slammed in a 113th minute extra-time winner to seal a 1-0 win for Die Mannschaft at the Maracana. It was Germany's first World Cup triumph since 1990, and their first as a unified nation.
German sportswear giants Adidas had made a small batch of these jerseys ahead of the tournament, in case Joachim Loew's men clinched the coveted title. And their move paid off, as the new jersey was sold off within 12 hours of it’s release. Adidas group spokeswoman, Katja Schreiber posted a picture of the new jersey on Twitter.
And to rub further salt on runners-up Argentina, the Germans will don the new jersey in their friendly against the Albiciestes on September 3 at Dusseldorf. The two sides faced each other in the 2014 World Cup final, a repeat of their previous final encounters in 1986 and 1990 respectively.
The German government has also released a stamp, designed by Lutz Menze, commemorating their World Cup triumph. Their win in Brazil is the first time an European nation has won the World Cup on South American soil.
