While on paper, a defender who plays for the league leaders and possibly the best team in England this season who also holds the second best record for goals conceded, may seem a great choice for your FPL team, City's recent defensive record seems to suggest otherwise.
Pep Guardiola's team has conceded six goals in their last five games (including the UCL tie against Napoli). While the record doesn't sound too bad, the opposition they have conceded against is rather worrying.( 2 conceded against both, Stoke and WBA, who are not very good in attack.)
This doesn't necessarily mean that Man City are weak at the back or their defenders are not good enough, it just seems like Guardiola's main focus is on scoring as many as his team can, and not on a conservative backline. This prioritisation from Guardiola is not good news for FPL owners who have trusted City's defenders with their backline.
This approach has so far led City to the top of the table, making their attacking options must-haves on FPL, but their defenders should be avoided for now.
