Super Frankie Lampard. When Chelsea signed him from West Ham in the summer of 2001 for 11 million pounds, little did they know that they had just snapped up a man who was to bloom into one of Europe’s finest. Undoubtedly one of the greatest ever to wear the Chelsea blue. His range of passing, work rate and his sangfroid finishing are just some of the things that have made him a household name. In his 12 years at Chelsea, he has won 3 Premier League Titles, 4 FA Cups, 2 Football League Cups, 2 FA Community Shields and captained the club to their maiden Champions League triumph. He stands second in the Premier League’s all-time assist table and set the record for most consecutive appearances in the Premier League (Brad Friedel holds this record now). Just goes to show you the consistency, grit and determination of the man. He’s someone you can depend on week in week out to put in a 110%.
Many things have changed during his stay at the club. Ownership (when Roman took over in ’03), managers (since Roman took over Chelsea), players (Roman’s rubles) and even his role on the field, with him having to occupy a much deeper holding role in Chelsea’s midfield in recent times. But none of this has had any effect on what the man does best, finding the back of the net. He is the all-time highest scoring midfielder in the Premier League and stands on the cusp of becoming the all-time highest scorer for Chelsea FC, moving closer and closer to Bobby Tambling’s record.
The man has reached double figures season after season for a decade now! There is no way you can argue with all this! Yet the Board of Chelsea FC continue to do so. He has even offered to take a pay cut, reducing his salary to less than half of what it is now just to stay at the club. The man bleeds blue! Give him a contract for the love of all that is fair and just in this world. Frank Lampard deserves atleast that much respect from Chelsea.
