Fulham 0-3 Chelsea: A good, solid performance

Isn’t it good to wake up this morning back up to third in the Premier League after a good solid performance last night from Chelsea against Fulham.

David Luiz will take most of the headlines with his stunning strike and rightly so but credit must be given where it is due; Rafa Benitez got his team selection right and with two old timers who people believe are past their prime, back in the fold, Chelsea won at a canter.

Chelsea have a balance about them with JT and Frank Lampard back in the side. Lampard gives us a cool, calm head in the middle and people feed off that. As for JT at back? Seeing him barking his orders, talking to people and organising, it’s something we missed last Sunday.

Fulham started the brighter of the two and Chelsea had looked a little bit leggy as it was our 60th game of the season. They created two or three opportunities and will wonder how on earth they failed to convert in addition to Petr Cech turning a deflected effort around the post when it looked like heading into the corner. However, once Luiz struck, Chelsea were in control.

The killer blow came just before half time as Juan Mata floated a cross to the back post for Terry to rise above his marker and head down low into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

Fulham worked hard to try and get back into the game but never really looked like doing so and the game as a contest was confirmed as over around 20 minutes from the end as from another well worked corner, Fernando Torres flicked on a header at the near post and Terry forced his way in front of the defender to head home literally on the goal-line to make it 3-0.

Chelsea fans were already in full voice throughout the whole game and the Hammersmith end was literally rocking for the most part. Cries of “We are the Champions, Champions of Europe!” belted out non-stop for what seemed like an eternity as we all realised that what could have been a potential banana skin had been avoided. Rafa Benitez got his team selection and tactics right for a change and we took a much needed three points back to the Bridge!

Let’s have more of the same on Sunday at Anfield!
