Turkish Super Lig club Galatasaray SK have agreed a fee for Internazionale midfielder Wesley Sneijder.
The news was broken on the Club’s official website in the wee hours of today morning.
The move finally puts an end to one of Italian football’s longest running transfer sagas of late. Sneijder, who has not featured for the Nerazzuri since September last season, was not willing to take a pay cut to extend his contract at the San Siro by another year.
His contract, which expires in 2015, was initially to be extended by another year. But he was to be paid the same amount of wages over another year. The standoff between player and club has seen him removed altogether from match day squads.
Sneijder joined Internazionale from Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2009 for a fee of 15 million Euros. Having won a host of trophies with the Italian outfit, including the UEFA Champions League, the Serie A and the Club World Cup, Sneijder’s move to Turkey signals yet another chapter in his career.
The Netherlands midfielder finished runner-up with his country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, before having a forgettable European Championships in Poland and Ukraine last summer.
