After Turkey coach Abdullah Avci resigned Tuesday, Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Chairman Yildirim Demiroren had an hour-long meeting with Galatasaray‘s Fatih Terim on Wednesday morning and reportedly offered him a four-year contract.

Turkish Today’s Zaman reported that Demiroren offered Terim a four-year contract that would allow him in the first year to coach both Galatasaray and the Turkish national team. Terim said that he would discuss the offer with Galatasaray chairman, reports Xinhua.

Avci left his post in a mutual decision with the TFF after a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign.

“Abdullah Avci is leaving the national team after reciprocal talks and an agreement was reached. We thank Mr. Avci for his services,” the federation said on its website.

The 50-year-old Avci, who took charge in November 2011, has been criticized by fans and the media for Turkey’s poor qualifying results, which include a home defeat by Romania.
