Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill admits that the side’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday was “massively disappointing,” telling reporters that he believes that the defeat marks the end of their title challenge.

Jose Mourinho’s side are now two points behind leaders Liverpool, but have played two games more than third placed Manchester City, who are in turn two points behind.

“We have to bounce back [against Paris Saint Germain on Wednesday.] It hurt at the end of the Palace game because we knew how vital three points would be. For us to not get them is very damaging,” admitted Cahill.

“If I’m totally honest probably, yes [Chelsea’s title challenge is over], that’s certainly how I felt at the end of the game.

“Mentally we have to be right. We have to be ruthless, go to places like Selhurst Park and do a job. We knew it was going to be difficult but we have to get the job done. Unfortunately we didn’t do that.

“It’s massively disappointing, the feeling at the end of the game was horrible but all we can do is keep pushing and try to win our games.”
