Manchester United legend Gary Neville has questioned David Moyes over his use of Ryan Giggs, who is now a player-coach at the club.
Moyes admitted after the game that he has been “trying to look to the future” when selecting younger players and Neville hinted that increased involvement of Giggs could aid the struggling side. The Welshman was directly involved in United’s first two goals to overturn the two-goal deficit from the first leg.
“I don’t know why [Moyes] hasn’t played [Giggs]. It’s strange he hasn’t played him for two or three months,” he said while a pundit on Sky Sports.
“He usually played every two or three weeks in the last few years. He usually gets his games hand-picked for him. That’s not happening in the last 12 weeks. Moyes has looked at the younger ones.
“[Against Olympiakos] he’s needed big performances and he got them from Giggs, [David] de Gea and [Danny] Welbeck.”
Wednesday’s win over Olympiakos was Giggs’ 961st game for United and his 20th of the season.
Giggs has scored in every Premier League season to date but is yet to score in this campaign.
