Gerard Pique will miss the second leg of Barcelona’s Champions League encounter against Arsenal after picking up a yellow card and a suspension for a foul on Danny Welbeck.
Barcelona were leading 2-0 in their match against Barcelona and with just five minutes left to play, the Spaniard bought the Arsenal forward down with a sliding tackle.
Asked on BT Sport if he thought that Pique intentionally picked up a yellow card, Wright replied: "I think so yeah. He misses the next leg and he's clear and free for the game afterwards.
"You've got to do it, I think. Look at how Pique plays for them; he is absolutely brilliant for them. In the latter stages of this, he has got to be there."
However, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique refuted suggestions that the Spaniard got a yellow card on purpose.
"It wasn't deliberate," he told reporters. "If you see the foul, he had to do that."
Pique who is very active on social media, held a Q&A session on his twitter account after the match against Arsenal and he tried to clear the air about his controversial yellow card.
When asked by a twitter user on how he felt about not being able to play against Arsenal in the next match, Pique tweeted this in response:
Translated, Pique said: Its a shame. Missing a Champions League match always hurts, but I have full confidence in the team.
Pique, was also asked a range of other questions such as which his three favourite stadiums to play in are. Pique who has riled Real Madrid supporters before did not include Santiago Bernabeu on that list.
Pique was also asked about his opinion on the famed trio of Messi, Neymar and Suarez for which he tweeted:
The tweet simply means undoubtedly the best and not many would argue with his opinion.
Whatever the intention of Pique’s foul on Welbeck was, Barcelona fans will be thankful that Pique will be available for the future matches if they manage to get thorugh against Arsenal which looks extremely likely after last night’s result.
