Vietnam’s German football coach Falko Goetz has officially ended his contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) following the poor performance of the under-23 team at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).
During a press conference here Friday, Goetz said it was a hard decision, but he had to take responsibility as the coach.
Pham Ngoc Vien, VFF vice chairman, highly appreciated Goetz’s sharing and pledged to do more to improve the country’s football, Xinhua reported.
Earlier last month, VFF general secretary Tran Quoc Tuan officially left office after submitting a letter of resignation, saying that he was partially responsible for the loss of the national under-23 team.
Goetz, a 49-year-old former Bayer Leverkusen player, became the eighth foreign coach of Vietnam since 1995 after the departure of Portuguese Henrique Calisto.
