Schalke’s German international Julian Draxler used his pre-match press conference to put himself forward for a move to one of Europe’s top clubs.
A rumoured target for Chelsea and Arsenal this summer, the midfielder is quoted about his ambitions in Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger.
Angling for a move, he says, “I owe Schalke a lot, I have always been at Schalke. I need to emphasise this. But I’m not so rooted here that I could not tear myself away.
“I can honestly say that it is my dream to play for one of the big clubs at some point.”
Expanding on his dream to play for a “big club,” Draxler proceeded to give a helpful list;
“The big two in Spain, Real and Barcelona, Bayern and a few others from England, namely Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.”
Eight cap Draxler appeared to further hint at his preference for a move to Arsenal; saying he was “honoured” to line up in the same international side as Mesut Ozil.
Despite his age, Draxler has made already made 82 appearances for Schalke. Scoring 13 goals in the process, he has established himself both as a key member of the side, and as their prized asset.
Whilst they would be loath to lose him, Schalke would be unlikely to be able to withstand a large offer from one of Draxler’s wish list of “big clubs”.
Draxler created 45 chances in the Bundesliga last season, amounting to 1.5 goalscoring opportunities per game.
