Germany 1-1 Switzerland: Germany Player Ratings as they seal Group A as leaders | UEFA Euros 2024

Switzerland v Germany: Group A - UEFA EURO 2024
Toni Kroos in action for Germany.

Germany drew 1-1 against Switzerland on Sunday, June 23, at the Frankfurt Arena to finish on top of Euro 2024's Group A with seven points. The Swiss finished second with five points, while Hungary secured third-place with three points.

Germany started the game on a strong note and thought they got the lead through Robert Andrich, but his goal was ruled out post VAR intervention citing a foul by Jamal Musiala in the build-up. Switzerland took their chance and started to grow into the game. The hosts were stunned as Dan Ndoye broke free of his marker and slotted one past Manuel Neuer to take the lead for his side in the 28th minute.

Germany came into the second half with much more grit, but they were wasteful in front of goal. The game looked set to end in defeat for the hosts, but Julian Nagelsmann's substitutes provided the spark in second-half stoppage time. Niclas Fullkrug headed home the equalizer for his side as he latched onto a cross from David Raum.

On that note, let's take a look at the player ratings for Germany.

Germany Player Ratings

Manuel Neuer - 6.5/10

Manuel Neuer did not have much to do throughout the game and was reliable whenever called upon. He could not have done much to keep out the opening goal of the game.

Joshua Kimmich - 6/10

Joshua Kimmich had a sub-standard performance for Germany. He was caught out of position on various occasions and left much to be desired moving higher up the pitch.

Antonio Rudiger - 7.5/10

Antonio Rudiger was rock solid at the back. The Real Madrid centre-back played a leader's role in defense. Rudiger won five duels, made five recoveries, won one tackle, and made one clearance throughout the game.

Jonathan Tah - 5/10

Jonathan Tah had a game to forget as he was not well positioned for Switzerland's opener. He struggled to keep hold of the opposition players and got a silly booking, ruling him out of their Round of 16 fixture.

Maximilian Mittelstaedt - 6/10

Maximilian Mittelstaedt had a decent outing. He was astute defensively, but failed to provide much moving higher up the pitch.

Robert Andrich - 6/10

Robert Andrich looked lively early on as he scored one, which was then ruled out for a foul. But post that, hardly made any impactful contributions.

Toni Kroos - 8/10

Toni Kroos was Germany's main man yet again. The veteran held his ground and orchestrated play for his side as he maintained the tempo. Kroos completed the most passes (98) and created four chances throughout the game. Moreover, he won five duels, made eight recoveries, won one tackle, and made two interceptions. All in all, a commanding performance.

Jamal Musiala - 7/10

Jamal Musiala had an above average game but post his performances against Hungary and Scotland, fans would have hoped for more. The Bayern Munich star created four chances, won five duels, made two recoveries, and completed three dribbles during his stay on the pitch.

Ilkay Gundogan - 5/10

Ilkay Gundogan could not leave his mark on the game. He found it too difficult to break the lines and will need to be better in the games to come.

Florian Wirtz - 6/10

Florian Wirtz had the right ideas, but lacked execution. Also, his pace let him down on multiple occasions. Wirtz found it difficult to breach the lines.

Kai Havertz - 6/10

Kai Havertz made some smart runs off the ball but on it, was bullied away by the Swiss defenders. He was unable to provide the breakthrough Germany were looking for as he missed some good chances.

Substitutes

David Raum - 7/10

David Raum turned provider for Germany as his cross led to the equaliser.

Nico Schlotterbeck - 6.5/10

Massive upgrade over Jonathan Tah as he provided the stability at the back after being subbed on.

Maximilian Beier - 6/10

Much like Andrich, he barely made any contributions which could change the course of the game.

Leroy Sane - 6/10

Leroy Sane had a disappointing performance yet again. Instead of playing the obvious passes, the Bayern Munich attacker tried complicated stuff which did not provide any results.

Niclas Fullkrug - 7.5/10

A super sub for Julian Nagelsmann, Niclas Fullkrug scored in the stoppage time to equalise for Germany. He showed what his side were missing throughout the game, which is a constant presence in the box.
